LUNDU: The General Operations Force (GOF) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle controlled goods out of Sarawak on Monday.

According to a spokesperson of GOF, the incident happened at 4.50pm when a team from the GOF 11th Battalion was carrying out patrols at the Malaysia-Indonesia border in Kampung Raso, Lundu.

The team spotted a local man driving a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle in a suspicious manner and went to inspect the vehicle.

“Inspections led to the discovery of boxes containing controlled goods like chicken wings and sausages.

“It was believed that the goods were to be smuggled out to a neighbouring country via a rat trail,” the spokesperson said.

As a result, the team arrested the driver and seized the goods worth RM91,000.

The suspect and seized items were handed over to Lundu police headquarters (IPD) for further action under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
