KUCHING: A video depicting a traffic policeman kicking a motorcycle has resurfaced online, sparking renewed debate about an incident that took place in Sibu three years ago.

The 10-second video clip was uploaded to a Facebook group called ‘JB Tracer: Johor Bahru Traffic, Crime & Community Service Report’.

The Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) identified the video as going viral at around 11am on today (July 5) and confirmed that the incident occurred in 2020.

“The incident took place on Aug 25, 2020, at Jalan Temple in Sibu, and it has resurfaced after three years,” stated the police.

Datuk Aidi Ismail, the Sarawak Police Commissioner at the time, has issued an official statement regarding the investigation into the case and the disciplinary violation by the traffic policeman.

In the video clip, a motorcyclist abruptly makes a U-turn upon noticing traffic police officers conducting a ‘Op Motosikal’ snap check.

Subsequently, a traffic policeman is seen kicking the motorcycle, causing the rider to fall onto the road.
After inspection, the rider was issued multiple summonses for various offences, including driving without a licence, expired road tax, lack of insurance coverage, riding against the traffic flow, and exhaust modification.
