SIBU: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) mini convention here will be used to empower central zone members with knowledge and updates on election procedures in preparation for the coming state election.

PBB secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is the convention’s organising chairman, said apart from this, the convention would inform grassroots leaders on what the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government had achieved, including ongoing and future development programmes.

“Although the event is only one day, there will be a lot of topics to be covered. We hope that by the end of the day, those present will become trainers to the others at branch level, who are not able to be with us here today,” he said when met at the rehearsal on Friday (Oct 2).

“Today is our rehearsal, looks like everything is going smoothly and the message that we want to hear tomorrow (Oct 3) is from our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is the PBB president and GPS chairman.

“His address is what we are looking forward to, he will talk about how we should prepare for the election and how the state has progressed under his three years of tenure as Chief Minister and his target, which is for Sarawak to be one of the most developed states by 2030.”

Nanta hoped that after the convention, attendees would be fully equipped and knowledgeable on development matters as well as lingering problems “so that they know how to explain the issues to the people on the ground.”

“This is because the opposition will attack the government by making up so many things, and we all know that not everything they say is the truth because it is for political mileage.

“So, this is the thing that we want our people to be ready for, that is to be confident to argue, that we have an argument against what they say because we cannot be just sitting around and being criticised by them but not able to explain.”
