SIBU: It is hoped that through the PBB Sibu mini convention held tomorrow (Oct 3), it would be able to gather delegates to be united in spirit and with full confidence in facing the coming 12th state election, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

She said GPS must win a handsome victory in the election because the party will be contesting for the first time under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The leadership of our chief minister must be supported because we have seen how committed he is in developing Sarawak.

“… and it has been proven that he has succeeded in defending Sarawak’s rights until we managed to get the payment of the state sales tax (SST) for our petroleum products,” she told New Sarawak Tribune when met at the rehearsal for the convention at Kingwood Hotel today (Oct 2).

Fatimah also hoped the important messages delivered at the convention can be successfully conveyed to all members and then to the voters in every constituency.

“We have a bright future because our political scenario is stable, we have a committed leader who is very focused and supported by the team who wants to make sure that the Sarawak becomes a developed state by 2030,” she said.

She added on the convention, the numbers of delegates attending had increased from 900 to about 1,083.

“There are additional representations and that shows a good sign for PBB… This is all what it is about, that we should be together, be united and most importantly we must work hard and we want to win (in the state election),” she said.

Asked on how ready PBB is in facing the election, she said, “PBB Women’s wing is very prepared.”

The Dalat assemblywoman said PBB Women’s wing has started to go on the ground and they have held meetings online to observe the preparation of the women machinery as well.

“Our women machinery is very important. There are things that we have entrusted our women do to on which they are good at, such as reaching out to the people in the community, helping out when needed, and also making sure voters can be tracked based on the electoral roll,” she said.

She said one of the party’s strategies was also to make sure that the voters are familiar with the GPS logo, as the party does not want voters to get confused by the Barisan Nasional (BN) logo.

“We are ready, God willing,” she said.

To another question whether will she contest in the coming state election, Fatimah said, “That will be the prerogative of the chief minister.”
