KUCHING: The Creative and Innovative Group (KIK) Convention should be used as a mechanism to solve problems, improve work processes and introduce new ideas.

In stating this, Natural Resources and Urban Development Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Zaidi Mahdi said the state government initiative to cultivate innovation and creativity needs to be implemented and applied more comprehensively in the public service by generating new ideas.

“The KIK programme’s aim is to boost performance, improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of government services.

“Through this convention, it is hoped that the presentation by each group competing in the convention will provide an innovative and positive impact, especially in the respective departments and agencies in the Ministry in general.

“This coincides with the theme of the convention at the Ministry’s level, which is “Innovation is the Heart of Public Service Excellence” (Inovasi Nadi Kecemerlangan Perkhidmatan Awam).

Zaidi said this at the Ministry’s Creative and Innovative Group Convention (KIK) held at a hotel here, yesterday (Aug 16).

He also said that the convention should not be seen as a mere annual competition and event, adding “with innovation, it can add value and further impact the department and agency’s services in improving efficiency and service delivery.”

Zaidi noted that some departments and agencies under the supervision of the Ministry have long been engaged and active in such programmes and some successful KIK groups have made Sarawak more well-known at the national and international level.

The convention, which commenced yesterday (Aug 16) and ends on Aug 18 involves 24 KIK groups from departments and agencies under the supervision of the Ministry, namely; five KIK groups from the Forestry Department; 13 KIK groups from the Land and Survey Department; three KIK groups from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and three KIK groups from Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC).
