KUCHING: The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy symbolises a sense of patriotism and, at the same time, strengthens the patriotic spirit among all walks of life, said Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan.

The Sarawak Federal Secretary said this when officiating at the Semarak Gemilang Programme 2023 for the state-level National Month and Waving of Jalur Gemilang ceremony held at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here yesterday.

“The convoy is embarking on a symbolic journey from the Land of the Hornbills to Sipitang, Sabah, with the aim of strengthening the patriotic spirit among various age groups and communities.

“It is hoped that the KMJG convoy journey would have a significant impact, helping people understand the true meaning of independence and fostering appreciation for harmony and unity.

“I call upon all civil servants from various federal departments and agencies in Sarawak to unite as one, proudly wave the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of love for their country and in a spirit of harmony,” he said

“The programme coincides with the upcoming National Month and Malaysia Day celebrations, following the successful Sarawak Day celebration on July 22.

“The struggle for independence is not the ultimate goal in forming a nation, but rather a stepping stone for any country to achieve greater aspirations, such as eradicating poverty and strengthening national unity,” he said.

Earlier on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg flagged off the convoy which comprised various government agencies, private companies, government-linked companies (GLC) and private agencies at the Sarawak Contingent Police headquarters (IPK).
