Cook arrested for suspected drug abuse

MUKAH: Police arrested a 25-year-old Indonesian cook for alleged involvement in drug (syabu or Methamphetamine) abuse in front of a riverfront restaurant in the old town here on Tuesday (Jan 18).

This was the fifth case reported for this year, and in the space of 16 days after the fourth case at the Jalan Bukut junction, Jalan Mukah-Selangau on Jan 14, the third one at Jalan Tiong Hua here (Jan 10), the second case at Jalan Mukah-Selangau (Jan 7), and the first one in the old town here (Jan 2).

The suspect, who is from Sungai Toman Kacamatan, Sambas, Indonesia, had no identification document and also no valid travel document.

Mukah OCPD DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, said on Jan 18 at about 12.10pm, the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department team approached the suspect, who was suspected of being involved in drug abuse.

“However, a body check on the suspect found nothing.

“The suspect was later brought to the police station for urine test, and was found to be positive for drug use.”

Initial investigation found that the suspect had been involved in drug abuse since late August 2021, and the drug was delivered to him by hand in the Mukah old town area.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of Dangerous Drug Act 1952, and Section 6(1)(c) of Immigration Act 1959/1963, for not possessing valid travel document.
