KUCHING: The public was told to cooperate with the government in overcoming the crises affecting the country.

Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the three crises are health, economy and environment.

“As of Thursday (Jan 28), Malaysia recorded 198,208 positive cases of Covid-19 and 717 deaths since the outbreak was first detected in Jan 2020.

“To make matters worse, the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic also had a negative impact on the economy when movement control order (MCO) was implemented,” he said.

Dr Hazland said over the past year, the federal and state governments had channelled various assistance to the people through economic stimulus packages.

“These include the Prihatin and Permai packages by the federal government and five Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) packages by the state government,” he said when met after presenting assistance to the flood victims at Kampung Tabuan Danni recently.

The Demak Laut assemblyman also said the recent flood caused by high tide phenomenon and heavy rains resulted in property losses by the constituents.

“These major floods are rare and are indeed unexpected so some did not have time to make any flood preparations.

“For that, assistance had been provided to flood victims with the aim of easing their burdens,” he said.
