KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman, Jefferson Jamit Unyat, has advised the heads of families (ketua bilik) at Genturong Sungai Kepayang in Yong near here to continue co-operating with each other in getting their new longhouse built.

“I am impressed with your spirit of fully co-operating to build your proposed new 18-door longhouse, Rumah Richard Nyalau, which certainly requires a lot of resources, time and effort,” he said while officiating at the earth-breaking ceremony for the longhouse last Sunday afternoon.

Jamit also called on the longhouse folk to maintain their spirit of give and take while planning their longhouse and making sure it has proper fire-breakers and other safety features.

“When you work together with one mind, your dream shall turn into reality. And I remind you to stay friendly and cooperative with your neighbours so that social harmony would prevail in the community in and around Sungai Yong area,” he said.

In promising to support them in building the longhouse, Jamit said he would consult Kapit Member of Parliament Datuk Alexander Nanga Linggi on how best to give assistance.

“I have allocated RM300,000 through my Rural transformation Programme (RTP) fund for site levelling and earth-filling. I also allocated RM10,000 for your Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) to carry out your other activities,” said Jamit.

Present together at the function were Tuai Rumah Richard Nyalau, Special Branch Officer from Sarawak Police Headquarters DSP Chua Su Hua, Pemanca Enggin Nyipa, Penghulu Pasang Tubah, Tuai Rumah Mathew Bina and several village headmen from nearby areas.

Earlier on, the Parish Rector of St Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church Kapit, Father Philip Obaso, recited a prayer of blessing for the earth-breaking ceremony of the new longhouse.
