SIBU: Residents of the eight longhouses put into lockdown in Pasai Siong, including Rumah Langi Ambau, are advised to comply with the restriction order from the authorities.

This was said by Penghulu Richard Ampi, who is in charge of the Pasai Siong area, when contacted on Sunday (Jan 10).

He said this is to break the Covid-19 transmission chain that created the Pasai Cluster.

“Do not panic and follow the instructions. Do not leave the house for the next two weeks.

“There is nothing to worry about because food and other necessities will be provided by the government,” he said.

In order to break the transmission chain for the Pasai Cluster, cooperation is needed from all of the residents involved and the surrounding area.

He explained that this is the time for all residents to work together to help frontliners manage the cluster.

He also stressed that enforcement alone is not enough without support from the community.

“The intersection to Jalan Sungai Pelaie which also houses my longhouse is blocked too.

“This is because of the 37 new positive Covid-19 cases detected through the Pasai Cluster. I advise residents of longhouses to be patient and follow the restriction order,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Sijah Enjut from Pasai Siong said that she has issued a notice on social media to inform that whoever is not a resident is not allowed to visit her longhouse until further notice due to the spike in Covid-19 cases in Sibu division.

“I also advised my residents not to go out and socialise with the other longhouse residents,” she said.

She also urged the residents of her longhouse to follow the stand operating procedure (SOP) as she believes that they would be able to overcome this together.

It was understood that some residents also attended a funeral in Siong Tengah.

All longhouses in the area are subjected to a two-week restriction order which commenced last Friday.
