MIRI: Two policemen were arrested yesterday in connection with a cheating case involving RM800.

The arrest was confirmed by Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah, when contacted yesterday.

Lim said the two policemen allegedly asked for money from an Indonesian man, telling him that they could help his friend (also an Indonesian) in exchange for some cash.

“The friend was arrested for immigration offences on Sept 8 and is currently in police custody,” said Lim.

The victim claimed that he transferred RM800 into a bank account of one of the suspects.

Unfortunately, although the payment was made, his friend was not released as promised.

This provoked the victim to lodge a police report.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
