JULAU: Police arrested four men for engaging in an illegal cockfighting gambling session at an oil palm estate in Pakan on Sunday.

District police chief, DSP Andam Sulin in a statement today (July 25) said a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted an Ops Dadu swoop at about 2.30 pm.

“Seeing the police team arriving at the scene, a group of men ran off. However, the team managed to arrest four of them aged 50-60,” he said.

Andam said that one of the suspects was uncooperative and shouted at the head of the CID.

“He was arrested under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from discharging their duty and the offence carries a jail term of two years or a fine of RM10,000 or both if convicted in court,” he said.

Andam also said the suspect together with his three accomplices were also detained under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1963.

“The offence carries a three-month imprisonment or a fine of RM500.

“We seized two live roosters, three dead ones, two spurs and RM430 from the suspects.

“We would like to emphasise that we will not compromise with any party conducting gambling activities that place bets on cockfighting, especially in Julau and Pakan areas,” he said.

Andam also advised the community to always give full cooperation to any civil servant on duty, especially those carrying out enforcement duties.
