KOTA SAMARAHAN: Police have launched a manhunt for a man who stole from a mosque cash box also known as tabung masjid on Wednesday.

District police chief DSP Sudirman Kram said the complainant, a member of the mosque’s committee, had lodged a police report regarding the incident.

The incident was noticed at approximately 8pm when the complainant noticed that the donation box was open after completing the Isyak prayer at Masjid Darul Ikhlas in Kampung Sindang, here.

“After checking the CCTV footage of the mosque, the complainant found that a man had opened the donation box at about noon time.

“In the CCTV footage, the man was seen opening the box using an iron-like tool. After successfully opening the box, the man then took out all the money in the coffer,” Sudirman said today.

He said the estimated loss could not be ascertained as the contribution by members of the mosque was yet to be counted.
