Cops quick to arrest housebreaker

A Miri CID team arrested the suspect and seized the confiscated items four hours after he broke into a house at Taman Yakin on Thursday.

MIRI: A man believed to have broken into the house of an administration officer to Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, was arrested by the police four hours after committing the crime on Thursday (July 22).

District police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari who confirmed the case, said the incident happened around 4.45pm at Taman Yakin.

After receiving a police report from the 31-year-old homeowner, a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team conducted ‘Ops Pintu’ at Taman Quadruplex and raided a house around 8pm.

“Upon realising the presence of the police, the suspect attempted to flee the scene through the back door (of the house).

“However, the team quickly thwarted his attempt and arrested him,” he said.

He added that the team also confiscated a phone, various bank cards, a folding knife, the clothes the suspects wore when he was committing the crime and a bag.

The 27-year-old suspect along with the seizures, were brought to the central police station.

Hakemal pointed out that the case is investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.
