SIBU: Police raided a bistro that had been turned into an illegal lottery operation centre, arresting one male suspect on Tuesday (Feb 15).
Acting Sibu OCPD Supt Collin Babat, in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 16), said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested around 1.50pm at the bistro located in Jalan Wong King Huo here.
Police also checked the suspect’s mobile phone, he added.
“The mobile phone contained numerous messages believed to be from his customers.
“The WhatsApp messages had numbers believed to be for the purpose of purchasing illegal lottery.”
Supt Collin added that the suspect is being locked up for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
