MIRI: Narcotics police intercepted a car at the Sungai Tujuh border (Sarawak-Brunei border) yesterday and found drugs weighing 1,000gm hidden inside the spare tyre.

The seized drugs were valued around RM36,000.

Miri Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a local couple was detained for questioning.

The arrest was made around 3pm.

Also seized were Brunei, Singapore and Malaysian currencies amounting to RM57,200.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
