SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) yesterday (May 27) held a National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme registration campaign here.

Its chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh said the event aims to encourage more communities in Sibu, especially the business community under its jurisdiction, to register for the vaccination.

During the campaign, SMC helped traders and their employees to register for the vaccines via the MySejahtera app as well as helped them add dependents and update their details.

Ting added that his team has also explained to the traders that they put the registration of the Covid-19 vaccine as a condition to issue or obtain a business licence under their jurisdiction.

“It (vaccine registration) is important so that people will feel safer to do businesses with traders.

“It will also give more confidence to the public to dine in at eateries under SMC when it is allowed once again.

“We will issue confirmation certificates to shop owners and employees who have received the vaccine on Sept 1.

“To those who have been confirmed as unfit to receive the Covid-19 vaccine by a doctor, the condition will be considered as waived,” he said.

At the same time, Ting encouraged the public to register themselves for the vaccination to avoid the risk of getting a serious infection.

He also advised members of the public who had received the vaccine to always practise the new norm such as wearing face masks, physical distancing and washing hands regularly.

Among the commercial areas that have been visited include Jalan Sanyan, Jalan Maju, Taman Rejang, Grand Height, Delta Mall Seduan and Pasar Permai.
