KUCHING: The Zero Plastic Use Campaign 2022 at SK Matang Jaya has been a success and the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) plans to extend the campaign to other interested schools in future.

MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim revealed this in his speech at the closing of the campaign at SK Matang Jaya, here, today.

He explained that the purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness among students and the school community about the effects of inappropriate disposal of plastic waste on human health and the environment.

For this year, MPP had successfully implemented six similar programmes in primary schools under its administration, Ahmad said.

“With the increase in population and the rapid development of economic, technological and consumption activities, the amount of solid waste is also increasing.

“As citizens of the city, there are various things that we need to do together to achieve environmental wellness, including aiming for a higher recycling rate,” he added.

Also present was headmaster of SK Matang Jaya Ensnat Musa.
