SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will be organising the ‘Countdown 2019’ at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 on Dec 31.
SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said on that date SMC will open the multi-storey car park at Jalan Wong Nai Siong from 5.30pm to 2am, extending the opening hours by one hour from the usual 5.3pm until 1am, for the convenience of the public.
He said the rate will be unchanged which is at RM1 per entry.
“I wish to urge public and join us come Dec 31,” he said at the full council meeting of SMC on Friday.
According to Tiong, artistic director Cheng Ing Kuan has been appointed to work out many attractive programmes at the main stage.
There will be a ‘Live Band Demo’, orchestra, sape, martial art and singing by Chinese, Malay and Iban singers.
“Fireworks display lasting for 10 minutes will mark the closing of 2018 and the welcoming of the New Year at 12 midnight.
“The guest-of-honour will be International Trade and E-Commerce Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh,” he said.
On the results of the Christmas Tree Decoration competition, Tiong said these will be announced during the Countdown celebration to be held at the main stage of Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 on Dec 31.
“Let’s come to celebrate, but please do not vandalise public properties or litter indiscriminately,” Tiong added.
