KUCHING: Miri City Council (MCC) has held its first meet-the-people session since March 2020.
“I am happy that we held our first meeting at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Miri this morning.
“We resumed it because it is one of the channels in which the public can communicate with MCC regarding problems or any issues they may want to raise.
“We hope that this can continue until such time that the standard operating procedures (SOP) may require us to stop again,” he said on Friday (Jan 7).
Meanwhile, during the meeting, Yii said a total of eight issues was raised by the public.
He added that four issues related to blocked drainage. “Also the public was not satisfied with the cleaning of the drainage, hence we take note of this and will look into them.”
“One issue is on grass cutting. The public was not satisfied with the work done. We will investigate and ensure that the contractor carries out the work well.
“One issue concerned tree cutting. We will get our landscape team to look into it, whether or not to trim or remove the trees because they pose a safety hazard,” he added.
Yii said two other issues were on the public requesting for roll-on, roll-off bins for the disposal of the rubbish.
Other than that, he was asked regarding the MCC’s flood preparations, replying that MCC and its assets were on standby and ready to act.
“We have put our emergency response team on 24-hour standby. We have also put our service units on standby.
“At the same time, we have also informed our engineering team to make sure all drainage systems are clean and not blocked.”
