SIBU: Enforcement teams will also monitor Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) at offices here.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting said they would also go up to any office located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor and so on, to ensure SOP compliance.

During a live special movement control order (MCO) SOP compliance talk on SMC’s social media site on Friday (April 23), he said most of the cases in Sibu recently were detected in offices.

“I have asked the Ministry of Health (MOH) where these positive people came from. The MOH says most who tested positive are from offices.”

Ting explained that this happened because office workers did not comply with SOP.

“For example, not wearing a face mask, sitting close to a friend and eating together in the pantry room.”

He urged all employers to monitor the situation in the office so that SOP compliance is strictly adhered to.

“It is advisable to bring your own drinks, food and spoons because if you eat together in the office, it is also the same as dining in.

“You should eat alone and stay away from each other if you can.”

Answering questions from netizens who wanted the PKPK SOP to be extended for another 14 days, Ting stated that he agreed with the request.

However, he said SMC could not decide this because it was under the jurisdiction of the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) and also the MOH.

“But if it continues (SOP PKPK) it will have a lot of impact, especially on those who are daily paid, and also the interests of other economic sectors.

“Whatever it is, SMC cannot decide. Let those who are more knowledgeable about this matter make the decision.

“What is important now, the Sibu community must continue to abide by SOP.”
