Council turns empty spaces into community parks

SIBU: The Municipal Council has converted six open spaces in its housing areas into community parks to promote a healthy lifestyle and strengthen social unity.
SMC Building Control and Urban Beautification Standing Committee chairman Cr Joseph Chieng said the open spaces are located at Ulu Sungai Merah 50A1; Lorong Perpati 2B; Lorong Sentosa; Lorong Wong King Huo 18C; Lorong Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce 50, and Jalan Bandong.
He explained that works on these parks would be completed by the end of this year, while the park in Jalan Bandong would be ready early next year.
“The council strongly supports a healthy lifestyle and fosters social unity among people from all walks of life,” he said after a site inspection at the proposed community park at Lorong Perpati 2B on Sunday (Oct 24).
He was accompanied by vice-chairman Cr Sammy Ngelambai and committee members Cr Lim Tiong Guan and Cr Raymond Tiong Eng Lee.
Chieng revealed that the proposed community park at Ulu Sungai Merah 50A1 will be equipped with children’s playground and fitness facilities, as well as a jogging track, benches, and parking bays.
He also stated that the playground and fitness facilities would be consistent for all the community parks.
