SIBU: Wong Ching Yong started his job as deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) by inspecting roads in Ulu Sengan and Sg Ulu Menyan here on Monday (August 3).

The people of the longhouses in Ulu Sengan have appealed to SRDC to repair a stretch of 1km road that has pot holes on it which could make driving during rainy days and at night very dangerous.

Two weeks ago, Tuai Rumah Setia Api, who represented the villagers of Ulu Sengan, voiced out the request before Wong was appointed as SRDC deputy chairman.

Wong, after inspecting the road on Monday (Aug 3), agreed that it is indeed in poor condition.

After visiting Ulu Sengan, Wong made his way to Sg Ulu Menyan to inspect its newly tar-sealed road.

“The road was raised by three feet and tar-sealed. It is hopeful that the longhouse folk in that area as well as the students of SK (Sekolah Kebangsaan) Sg Menyan do not have to face flash floods after every downpour again.”

“The raising of the road and the tar-sealing cost about RM300, 000,” he said.

Wong was accompanied by some councillors and the engineer of SRDC, Jacky Tiong Kek Chiing.
