KOTA SAMARAHAN: The demand for more security posts along the Sarawak-Kalimantan border was not only due to the coming relocation of Indonesia’s capital city to Kalimantan.
Eastern Field Command (EFC) commander Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zain said the purpose of adding more such facilities was to counter-balance the number of existing posts in Kalimantan.
“Apart from that, the relocation of Indonesia’s capital to Kalimantan should be reflected in Indonesia-Sarawak bilateral relations.
“In this regard, we wish to propose that a quadrennial meeting be held between the two parties to discuss any issues related to the border and forge closer relations,” the EFC commander said during a press conference after ‘A Day with the Media’ at Muara Tuang Camp here yesterday.
“To establish a security post, we do several border-related studies using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), which have been very effective in assisting the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) in monitoring smuggling and trafficking along the border.”
Zamrose said to date he had requested for 20 more security posts. Currently Sarawak has only 11.
“A post at Imbangan Ladang Dafa will be operational in January next year. For the other 19 we are still looking for suitable locations for them,” he said.
