MIRI: The Miri Country Music Festival will make a comeback this year with Tantowi Yahya returning as the festival headliner.
MCMF 2022 is set to be held on Nov 25-26 at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, here.

“The idea to organise MCMF was derived from the affection the local communities have for country music,” said Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on Saturday.

“Mirians are known to embrace not only country music, but they also dress the part donning cowboy outfits. In the past eight years, MCMF has attracted festival goers from nearby Bintulu, Brunei, Sabah and regional visitors from neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Brunei, Australia and Indonesia.”

Towards this end he said this year’s line-up will definitely not disappoint the audience, pointing out that notable performer Tantowi Yahya from Indonesia is making a comeback.

“I see MCMF this year also has new bands and performers such as Ramon Cedillo from Singapore, Cambodia Country Band from US and Cambodia, Johnny Loda Trio from Italy, UK and Thailand, and many more exciting country musicians from Peninsular Malaysia and of course our very own performers from Sarawak,” he added.

Festival founder Gracie Geikie said MCMF aims to partner with Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) to market the music festival in Singapore, packaging it together with direct flights from Singapore and special tour packages around the northern region of Sarawak.

“We have selected several CSR partners to collaborate and work with for MCMF this year – The Federation of Orang Ulu Associations Sarawak Malaysia (FORUM), the Miri Photography Society, Miri Performing Arts Association and Borneo Medical Centre Miri,” she said.

MCMF 2022 has also invited performers and festival goers to join The Buku Project by bringing their second hand books to MCMF to be donated to children and residents of Long Lama and Long Atip, in the hope of providing reading material to educate and improve literacy in these areas.

Early bird tickets are now on sale at RM80 per-day and RM120 for a two -day pass. More information on ticket purchase can be found at www.miricountrymusic.com and Miri Country Music Fest Facebook page.
