KUCHING: A public tip-off resulted in the arrest of a couple allegedly involved in substance abuse at Mile 17, Kuching-Serian road on Thursday (May 28).

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said that a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) raided a house in the area at 10am.

“Our personnel successfully caught the couple inside for allegedly being involved in substance abuse,” he said.

He added that both individuals, aged 35 and 36, tested positive for drugs — they later admitted to have been involved in substance abuse since 2018.

Aidil noted that both are currently detained in Siburan police station and Beratok police station respectively to facilitate investigations under Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In another case, a 24-year-old man tested positive for drugs after admitting to being involved in substance abuse since 2017.

The man is being investigated under the Section 15(1) (a) of the same Act and currently detained at Siburan police station.

Members of the public are urged to assist the police in channelling information related to substance abuse so that action can be taken immediately.

He added that cooperation from both parties can result in eliminating such issues as drugs are the root cause of crime.
