Couple doing drugs in front of children among 12 arrested

MIRI: A man and his wife were among 12 individuals arrested by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Miri branch, during an operation held on Thursday for suspected involvement in drug abused offences.

According to AADK Miri chief Mazlan Jikran, the couple was frequently doing drugs while their children, aged one and four, watched.

“The couple was detained at a house in Permyjaya Tudan,” he said.

Mazlan said besides the couple, the others arrested were three women and seven men aged between 19 and 50 years old.

The operation which started from 8pm and ended 4am the next day, was carried out in three different locations namely, Kampung Tudan, Permyjaya and Kampung Lereng Bukit.

“All 12 offenders were tested positive for syabu,” he said, adding among these were three brothers in their 20s.

Mazlan said police were able to talk to the parents of the three and they admitted to feeling frustrated and disappointed by the trio.

According to the parents, their sons were frequently behaving aggressively when they were high on drugs.

“They even threatened to torch the family house when they could not get their parents to give them money,” said Mazlan.

Mazlan said the suspects are likely to be charged under Section 3 (1) of the Drug Addict (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
