Couple held for drugs in raid on hotel

MIRI:  Police picked up a local man and his female acquaintance during a raid on a budget hotel in Lopeng here where drugs worth RM6,225 were found in a room, yesterday (Jan 31).

Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 62.50g were seized by Miri narcotics police around 12.15pm.

“One of the suspects had tried to dispose of the drugs by throwing a sling bag containing the illegal substance out of the hotel room windows,” he said.

Police found drugs weighing 11.5g in the sling bag, and another 51g inside the room.

The suspects, aged 37 and 41 years are under remand for investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 15 strokes.
