KUCHING: An elderly couple suffered burns to several parts of their bodies when their house at Jalan Simpang Pakan near Sarikei was destroyed in a fire on Thursday night.
Their double storey home was completely razed to the ground and the couple had been sent to Sarikei Hospital for treatment.
In the incident, 76-year-old Nelson Bada suffered burns on the head, both legs and the back of his body. His wife, Leta Gemong, 61, suffered burns on her right leg and hands.
According to Bomba operations room here, they received a distress call about the incident at 11.50pm and immediately dispatched 15 fire fighters in two fire engines from its Sarikei and Bintangor stations. Two Bomba senior officers Nicholas Belulin and Suna Kaha were also at the scene.
Prior to being sent to Sarikei Hospital the victims were also given on-the-spot medical treatment by Bomba Medical Retrieval Service personnel.
The rescue operations ended at 12.22am yesterday.
