Couple nabbed for preserving cannabis plant

The 8cm tall cannabis tree planted in a pot, seized as evidence on Saturday (June 27).

PADAWAN: Police arrested a couple found allegedly preserving a cannabis plant in their house at Kampung Paya Mebi, Landeh yesterday.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan who confirmed the case, said a team of Padawan Police Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) made the arrest around 3.10pm.

“The team arrested a 44-year-old unemployed man and 35-year-old housewife on suspicion of involvement in drug activity.

“Further inspections found a green pot with a tree suspected to be cannabis about 8cm tall, which was seized as evidence,” he said in a statement.

Aidil noted that both individuals were brought to Padawan NCID headquarters for further actions.

Apart from that, the man who has past criminal records was tested positive for drugs while, the woman was tested negative and does not have any criminal record.

“The man told that the tree which was planted in the pot for about 3 weeks, was taken from Lorong 2, Kampung Paya Mebi and was brought home for preservation. The raid team went to the said location and found no cannabis tree planted in the area,” he added.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
