KUCHING: Young entrepreneurs, Mohammmad Syazwan Mohd Mustafa and his wife Afifah Mohamad have come a long way since 2015.

That year, while awaiting the arrival of Hari Raya, they decided to start a small biscuit business.

According to Syazwan, they had only RM100 for the business and decided to use the money to buy ingredients for the biscuits.

“My wife made all the biscuits without the help of anyone else,” he added.

Syazwan said that the demand for the biscuits was good.

“After the fasting season, we stopped selling biscuits as we originally planned. However, many customers kept asking us to continue our biscuit business.

“Because of that, my wife and I decided to resume our biscuit business. Besides, I did not have a permanent job at that time,” he recalled.

Now, Syazwan, who is also the founder of Gigit Rangup Corporation (GRC), has 17 permanent staff working for him and 2,500 product agents throughout Sarawak.

“I estimate the revenue from selling these crunchy biscuits to be about RM180,000 a month,” he said.

Syazwan also revealed that the sales of their biscuits reached RM100 million in four years of operation — from 2015 to 2020.

This year, his company aims to earn up to RM5 million in sales.

“Our mission is to help at least 7,000 women across Sarawak earn an income of RM50,000 a year.

“We focus a lot on opportunities for housewives and those who need jobs to generate income.

“Although business is challenging, with a high fighting spirit and a positive attitude, my wife and I are able to succeed today,” he said.

Syazwan said they had failed several times in their business and even had to close down their business operations twice.

“Despite the challenges, we still thrive for the sake of our children as well as our workers,” he added.

Besides encouraging its workers to be positive always, GRC company also applies a culture of knowledge sharing in its management.
