Couple’s remains home next Monday

KUCHING: The remains of a Sarawakian couple, who died due to electrocution in Cameron Highlands recently, are expected to be brought home next Monday (Mar 14).

Sarawak Volunteers advisor Fazruddin Abdul Rahman said currently the bodies of the two victims had been taken to a hospital for post-mortems.

He said that post mortem results might be ready on Monday and only after that could the bodies  be brought back to the state.

“Besides that, we also plan to assist in sending the victims’ belongings including their vehicle back to Kuching,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted today.

The Tupong assemblyman added that Rumah Sarawak in Kuala Lumpur (RSKL) had sent officers to meet the victim’s children and family members to provide the needed assistance.

“Sarawak Volunteers is also coordinating and working closely with RSKL to see what other assistance is required.

“So far, the plan is to bring the bodies of the late husband and wife and their belongings back to the state,” he said.

He added that all Sarawak MPs also extended assistance through RSKL to the family of the deceased.

“Apart from that, the deceased’s cousin who represented the deceased’s brother arrived from Sarawak today (Friday) and will meet with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) before going to court to manage the custody of the couple’s children,” he said.

Damian Senin, 46, from Kampung Daha Kisau, Serian and his wife Ronwina Mambai, 35, from Kampung Ruan Lubang Tiung, Simunjan left behind their children aged nine, eight, and one.

Earlier on Thursday, Bernama reported that the victims were found dead in the bathroom of a flat in Taman Tringkap, Brinchang in Cameron Highlands.

Preliminary investigation found burn marks on the palm of the woman, who was believed to have been electrocuted when she went to help husband, who was showering using the water heater when the incident occurred.

The victims’ remains were taken to Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital Tanah Rata for post mortem while their three children were handed over to JKM.
