Courier company employee fined for hurting disabled man

KUCHING: A courier company employee was fined RM1,000 by the Magistrates’ Court here for hurting a disabled man (OKU) with firecrackers.

Mohd Aidid, 22, pleaded guilty to the charge on yesterday, read before magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

The court sentenced him to two weeks in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

According to the charge, he deliberately inflicted injuries on the 38-year-old victim in front of a building in Bandar Baru Samariang, around 11am, on May 10.

The accused was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 511 of the same Code.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who is the brother of the victim, saw a viral video on social media in which his brother was bullied by two unknown individuals.

The complainant then lodged a police report for further investigation and action.

On the day of the incident, in the same area, a police team received information that there was a fight and they managed to arrest two men.

Some of the items seized included fireworks, a syringe cover, a shirt, a pair of pants, a pair of shoes and a smartphone.

Further investigation found that the accused had tried to injure the complainant’s younger brother by using a plastic syringe sheath and firecrackers.

Prosecution of the case was handled by Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was unrepresented.
