KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday (Oct 4) received a courtesy call from the organising committee members of the 85th birthday celebration of the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.

The delegation was led by minister in charge of the celebration, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom who is also the Minister of Utilities.

The aim of the courtesy call was to brief and invite the chief minister to several events in the Kuching district from Oct 8 to Oct 10 in conjunction with the birthday celebration.

“The birthday celebration this time will be hybrid in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs),” said Rundi.

According to him, the celebration will start off with a thanksgiving ceremony at Masjid Jamek Kuching on Oct 8.

The following day, three events will take place, namely, the official ceremony at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) parade ground; the investiture ceremony of Sarawak State Orders at the Lapau DUN Hall and the state dinner at the Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK).

On Oct 10, a high tea reception will be held at the DUN dining hall followed by a side event dubbed ‘Konsert Irama dan Lagu’ in the evening,
