KUCHING: Kuching courts complex opened its door to the general public yesterday during its inaugural Aram Berami carnival held at its compound.

The carnival was organised by the Kuching Court Recreational Club (KRMK).

KRMK assistant secretary Marina Abdul Rahman said the carnival was to enable the general public to join in the activities organised by the club.

“We want to give a chance for the general public to come to Kuching courts complex and explore our facilities since most people have never been here at all,” she told reporters at the event.

She added that the carnival was also aimed at enhancing ties between court officials and the general public.

“I think it’s important for the general public to know that the court is not a place to fear, which is why we hold this carnival” she added.

Various programmes including aerodance, children colouring competition, design competition, children beauty pageant and karaoke competition were held during the day-long carnival.

There were also trucks and stalls selling food and drinks to visitors.

The Road Transport Department also set up a counter under its ‘JPJ with You’ programme for visitors to check and pay for traffic summonses and renew their road tax.

Despite of the heavy downpour, Marina expressed joy seeing many visitors coming and participating in the competitions and programmes.

An estimated 2,000 people visited the event yesterday.
