SIBU: Kapit will have a Covid-19 One Stop Centre, says federal Deputy Health Minister II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

He said the establishment of the centre was a follow-up to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Kapit.

“All the details about it (the centre) will be decided tomorrow (Thursday) at a meeting. We will also appoint someone to manage it,” said the Kanowit MP here on Wednesday (May 5).

He added that the centre should be spacious and  equipped with counters, smear test area and so on.

The centre would allow all resources, including manpower and transportation, to be concentrated in one place to help overcome certain constraints in the fight against the pandemic.

He explained that the centre would also aid in screening tests as well as active case detection process.

With the centre in place, individuals who need to undergo smear tests or who have been identified as close contact to Covid-19 patients could go there for further action.

“This means, they no longer have to go to the hospital or clinics and the doctor will inform them based on the appointment.”

He added that the establishment of the centre was an initiative of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.

He revealed that Bintulu and Sibu could also see the setting up of such centres.

To date, only one Covid-19 One Stop Centre has been set up – at Kuching South City Council.
