BAU: An undocumented immigrant was arrested for entering Sarawak via a rat trail last Sunday (Dec 13).

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the arrest took place around Kampung Skibang near the Malaysia-Indonesia border at about 4.57pm.

An enforcement team comprising Bau police and the army was carrying out patrols in the area when it spotted the 27-year-old Indonesian man.

“Inspections found the man did not have valid travel documents and that he had entered illegally using a rat trail.

“The arrest process was carried out in accordance with Covid-19 SOPs with the assistance of Civil Defence Force services using an ambulance and complete personal protective equipment (PPE),” he stated.

Poge said the case was being investigated under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The arrest was successfully made as a result of public information.

“We greatly appreciate the public’s cooperation and urge that they continue to channel information on the entry of illegal immigrants in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Sarawak,” said Poge.
