KOTA SAMARAHAN: Hitherto there is no sign of activities related to gangsterism in schools in the state.

This was said by the Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Mazlan Mansor during a visit to the Heart Centre here yesterday.

According to Mazlan, officers have been placed at selected schools in the state to monitor any sign of gangsterism among the schools’ students and it has been reported that there is no sign of it at this moment.

“However, we are always monitoring and we also urge members of the public to please let us know earlier if there are any such activities like that.

“Please don’t wait until it happens; tell us so we can take preventive measures against it.

“If there is any report of gangsterism among students in the schools, we will take action,” he said to reporters.

This was in regard to a statement made by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar on a nationwide directive issued to identify schools with problems of gangsterisms among their students.

According to Bernama, the directive has been issued to school liaison officers to work with discipline teachers in particular.

This was after Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid gave full leeway to the police to conduct investigations at the schools.

The visit was also held in conjunction with the 210th Police Day, which also saw the presence of the Heart Centre’s director Dr Mohd Asri Riffin.
