BINTULU: A fatal accident near the Kampung Pisang petrol station along Jalan Pesisir Samalaju, here, claimed the lives of a mother and her seven-year-old child.

The incident occurred last night (Sept 15) around 9.50pm when the duo was travelling on a motorcycle ridden by the woman’s husband when a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle rammed into the rear of the motorcycle.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu identified the victims as Habibah and her son, Fairuz.

“The incident happened when the 4WD was traveling from Samalaju to Bintulu and collided with the rear of the motorcycle,” he said today.

He said the mother and her son both died at the scene while the man was rushed to Bintulu Hospital for immediate treatment.

Alexson said the road was wet at the time of the incident.

“The 4WD apparently was not in time to apply the brakes.

“As a result of the collision, the victims were thrown to the left side of the road on the grass while the 4WD skidded and landed in a large ditch before it overturned,” he Alexson said.
