Craun Research made a board with RM5 million fund

MUKAH: The Sarawak government has allocated a special fund of RM5 million to Sarawak Rumbia Industrial Development Board which is a reinvention of Craun Research Sdn Bhd.

“As a board, it will be more structured and will be able to fully develop the rumbia industry in Sarawak,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the Gawai Raya 2019 celebration and launch of GPS Zone 10 at Rh Kalang, Ulu Bayan, Jalan Mukah-Selangau yesterday.

Meanwhile, Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said for the development of rumbia plantations, the total area for the whole of Sarawak covered 51,518 hectares while the total area in Mukah division covered 45,392 hectares.

She said the Mukah operation was expected to contribute 88.11 per cent to the total rumbia plantations in the state.

“The smallholders played an important role in the rumbia industry. The total land area being cultivated cover 46,768 hectares while the 4,750 hectares are being cultivated by mini estates. The smallholders contribute to 90.77 per cent of the total rumbia area,” she said.
