Crispy chicken skin snack

KUCHING: Crispy chicken skin is not something that can easily be found compared to other snacks such as cakes, but people who love it somehow know where to look and most go to Siti Kamisah Julayhi to fulfil their craving for crispy chicken skin.

Siti Kamisah, who operates from home, said that her husband and family have been supportive of her business for the past five years.

“In the beginning, I had a capital of RM100 to produce 20 containers of crispy chicken skin for my customers. I am now able to produce 100 containers,” she said.

Siti Kamisah expressed her excitement on how she has been generating good sales while receiving encouraging responses from her customers.

Alhamdulillah, I am grateful that I have regular customers. Although the world was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, there is still demand for my crispy,” she said.

She also revealed that the sales for her crispy chicken skin have caught the attention of customers from outside of Kuching including Dalat, Bau, Kuala Lumpur and even Singapore.

She added that she and her husband would deliver orders according to the address given.

“For areas outside of Kuching, I use postal services. So far, there are many people in Sabah who are keen on becoming agents for my crispy chicken skin but there are things to take in consideration as I have continuous demand from customers,” she said.

Siti Kamisah’s crispy chicken skin comes in three flavours — original, spicy, and salted egg.

Siti Kamisah shared that the income she has earned is very encouraging.

“Within a day, I can earn RM500 to RM700 in revenue depending on the amount of raw chicken skin supply.

“My crispy chicken skin comes in three flavours — original, spicy and salted egg,” she said, adding that the original and spicy flavours are usually in high demand.

The price of the snack ranges between RM10 and RM15, according to the flavour.

“I also provide opportunities for those who are interested in becoming an agent to generate side income.

“Although we are facing challenges, I hope that this business continues to thrive and I hope to develop an outlet or shop, including setting up a factory to target the international market,” said Siti.
