KUCHING: A two-day Small Town Art Market (STAM) themed ‘Crazy Rich Borneo’ from July 6 to 7 is being held here at The Hills Shopping Mall, Kuching.

The previous market organised by STAM was the Junior Art Market (JAM) held in April, also at the same venue.

STAM organiser Nia Latif is confident of drawing 4,000 visitors, saying they felt encouraged by JAM’s success last April when the event drew 2,500 visitors.

“The difference between JAM and STAM is JAM focuses more on the junior vendors whereas STAM focuses on both the junior and adult vendors.

“In this two-day event, there are more than 30 vendors and various activities are being held here such as the junior and adult markets, workshops for children, songs and dance performances, a vintage exhibition, dance workshops and many more,” she stated.

Asked if STAM ever considered becoming part of the Rainforest Fringe Festival (RFF) at Borneo 744, Nia said replied in the negative.

“We can say that we have our own uniqueness as far as our content is concerned. Besides, we also have our own STAM family thus we have a variety of contents,” she explained.

To date STAM has put together 12 art markets and while JAM has four.

“We have gathered over one hundred local talents from near and far, attracting over 10,000 visitors and shoppers.

STAM is a design market that features the work of independent artists, creative makers, music people and performers.

Founded in 2016, STAM has grown into more of a festival than a market, with its combination of design, art, good food, live music and fun community.

Members of the public are invited to attend the art market to show support for the local vendors and enjoy the performances and workshops conducted by STAM.
