KUCHING: The Sultan Iskandar Planetarium, Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research Sarawak (MESTR) will be organising a ‘Friends of Astronomy Roadshow’ (Jerayawara Sahabat Astronomi) in Kuching, Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri from November to December.

The purpose of this programme is to provide awareness on astronomy to the public, especially students.

The main attraction of the programme is a mini planetarium where visitors will be able to experience being in the universe through simulations of the night sky with planets, moons, and constellations.

Aside from that, visitors can watch a digital show featuring astronomy elements.

The roadshow will also involve hands-on activities where students can learn to make star charts and understand how to use planetarium software. There will also be astronomy quizzes and science shows.

Previously, roadshows were only organised in schools and did not involve the general public.

This time, however, the roadshows will be held at popular malls in the respective locations in order to attract many visitors of various ages who will have the opportunity to visit the exhibitions.

The organiser has called for compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) throughout the programme in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.
