MUKAH: The crime rate in this district is under control thanks to the cooperation of the general public in helping law enforcers to maintain peace and order here.

“However there are still people out there being duped or scammed by irresponsible individuals through telephone calls, impersonation as police officers or government officials from the Customs Department, Court and so on,” Mukah district police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau told the media after attending a gathering in commemoration of the 214th Police Day at the police multipurpose hall here today.

He said the victims of scams, including government staff, incurred losses amounting to hundreds of ringgit.

Jimmy advised the public to report any suspicious calls to the relevant authorities and always adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to help curb the spread of Covid-19, adding that stern action would be taken against anyone who flouted the SOPs.

He also urged his staff to perform their duties sincerely.
