A 300kg carcass of a male crocodile was found in the waters of Kampung Nyabut, Trombol. The 15-feet-long reptile is believed to have been dead for the past three days.

KUCHING: A 300kg bull crocodile with human remains in its belly was found dead in the waters of Kampung Nyabut, Trombol today.

The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in a statement, said the reptile with a broken jaw was believed to have been dead for the past three days.

Its swift wildlife action team (SWAT) found several pieces of human skeleton in the belly of the beast, which measured about 15-feet-long.

“However, it could not be confirmed nor identified whether the crocodile was the one that attacked seven-year-old Mohammad Adami Moktar on May 21.

“The results will be known pending DNA tests which will be confirmed by the relevant party,” the corporation said.

The finding of the carcass followed an intensive effort by the SWAT team to hunt crocodiles in several locations including around Trombol and in Lundu district.

SFC is a regulatory body mandated under the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 in addition to having expertise in crocodile-related matters.

Hence, the public has been reminded that any hunting and catching of crocodiles is best left to the SFC.

It reminded that such activities require licences and permits as these animals are protected under the law.

The corporation will continue its efforts to increase residents’ understanding of crocodiles through the ‘3M Crocodile Programme’ in all areas, to help the local community to Recognise, Understand and Conserve Crocodiles or ‘Mengenali, Memahami dan Memulihara Buaya’

The programme will also provide exposure to the public on methods to deal with human and crocodile conflicts more efficiently, increase their understanding of crocodiles and at the same time, strengthen harmony between humans and crocodiles to ensure the safety of people.
