MIRI: Crowds were sighted at wet markets in the city centre yesterday after the new set of regulations for the conditional movement control order (CMCO) was announced on Monday.

A checked by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday morning found unusual amount of vehicles and people entering the city centre, especially to Jalan Raja here.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, at the CMCO stage, the police together with other enforcement agencies, including the army, would be focusing more on the public’s compliance with the CMCO’s standard operating procedure (SOP), particularly on social distancing guidelines.

“Roadblocks installed at previous MCO’s locations would be lifted, and during this CMCO stage, we’ll focus more on monitoring the public compliance with social distancing guidelines while shopping for essential goods outdoor,” he said.

He urged the public to comply with the CMCO’s SOP during this stage to reduce the number of Covid-19 cases.

Lim said police personnel would be patrolling at various locations to ensure the level of compliance by the people is achieved.
