KUCHING: A group of people gathered at the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) complex at Simpang Tiga here yesterday morning although notices have been issued that all EPF branches throughout the movement control order (MCO) period would be closed.

The public had gathered outside the gate early in the morning to apply for the i-Lestari Account 2 withdrawal scheme beginning April 1. They could actually apply online.

However, many still gathered and waited outside the complex without even bothering to practise social distancing.

Police who were present at the scene, urged the crowd to disperse.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, when announcing the Prihatin Economic Stimulus Package, said EPF contributors below the age of 55 could withdraw up to RM500 each month for a year to help boost private consumption and cushion the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Malaysian economy.

EPF has a dedicated email for i-Lestari – ilestari@epf.gov.my – for members to send in their queries. These will then be collated and added to its list of FAQs on its website, www.kwsp.gov.my.
