KUCHING: More Community Social Support Centres (CSSC) will be established in various parts of Sarawak to benefit individuals in need.

Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah emphasised the importance of easy accessibility in establishing such centres and pledged to further develop them in other areas.

“We want it (CSSC) to be easily accessible to every strata of society and serve as a venue for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and others to conduct beneficial programmes.

“The centre also serves as a platform to foster community well-being,” she said at the closing ceremony of the “Seni Kita: Her Mind” Programme at CSSC here on Sunday (Apr 28).

She added that Sarawak is seen as the first to successfully establish such centres throughout Malaysia.

“As for the CSSC we are building in Sibu, it is almost ready, and meanwhile, in Miri, we are still in the process of finding suitable premises.

“This is because we want a place that is easily accessible so that the homeless and the public do not face problems in finding and reaching these centres,” she said.

Fatimah also called for more collaborative programmes involving young talents and awareness campaigns.

“We are pleased to see CSSC being utilised by Seni Kita while showcasing the creativity of young people along with collaborating with the Mental Health Association to raise public awareness.

“We hope that more programmes involving collaboration with other associations will be held in the future, thereby providing exposure and discussing social issues that need attention,” she said.
