KUCHING: There is a need to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among the youth, said Urban Development and Natural Resources Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh.

He said this can be achieved through the ‘Semarak Kemerdekaan’ programme organised by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) recently.

“This morning I did the flag-off of the ‘Ukas Semarak Kemerdekaan’ programme in Kampung Seberang, Sarikei.

“The cycling programme with Sarikei youth managed by Sarikei Ukas assistant administrative officer Razali Jidi is to cultivate the patriotic spirit and love of country among Malaysians,” he said.

He said this on Saturday (Sept 11) in a Facebook post after officiating at the programme earlier in the morning in Sarikei.

At the same function, Len also doled out allocations to several non-government organisations (NGOs) and associations.

Among the recipients were the Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) of SK Muara Payang (RM5,000), SK Agama Sarikei (RM5,000), SK Jawa, Kerubong (RM5,000) was SJK San Min, Sare (RM5,000) and SK Adin, Sare (RM5,000).

Also receiving the allocation were Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam Sarikei (RM5,000); Sarikei Single Mothers’ Association (RM3,000) and Royal Malaysian Customs Women’s Association (RM5,000).
