SUPPLY OF ELECTRICITY

LAWAS: Sarawak is currently in talks with Brunei about the potential supply of electricity.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak government had taken over the Bakun dam from the federal government, namely one of the first things he did after taking office.

“We are developing our hydro dam in Baleh after (the one in) Murum.

“This means we have full ownership of our electricity, and we are the ones who get to decide the tariff.

“From there, we are now selling our electricity to Indonesia (Kalimantan Barat).

“We are currently discussing the same matter with Brunei Darussalam as they are also in need of electricity.

InsyaAllah, we will supply it to our good neighbour (Brunei),” he said when officiating at a function called ‘Dinner with Chief Minister of Sarawak’ at Banting Indoor Stadium here on Monday night.

Among those present were his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and wife Datin Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, Deputy Rural Development Minister Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Deputy Transport Minister Hasbi Habibollah and State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion.
